pastor Mark Jones

Mark began serving as the Senior Pastor of Memorial Baptist Church in August 2014. Mark has been married to his wife Diane for 34 years and both of them enjoy living in the Shenandoah Valley as they seek to be faithful to God’s leadership in serving Memorial Baptist Church. Mark and Diane have two adult children; Sierra and her husband lives in Frisco, Texas and Garrett who lives in Staunton. Before serving at Memorial Mark was the Sr Pastor at First Baptist Church of Darlington in South Carolina which is preceded by 25 years of youth ministry experience in churches in the Southwest and Southeast. Mark is a graduate of Golden Gate Baptist Seminary in Mill Valley, CA where he received his Masters of Divinity and of Oklahoma State University where he received a BS in Marketing. Mark is passionate about communicating the Gospel through preaching and teaching as well as encouraging Memorial Baptist Church to be a worshiping community on mission.


Kathy Lafon

Kathy W. Lafon serves as Director of Music and Worship at Memorial Baptist, coordinating music for both Sunday morning services. At the 9am service, you will find Kathy playing the piano and leading in songs of praise and worship as well as hymns of faith in this “musically blended” service. At the the 11am service, you will find her directing the Sanctuary Choir and leading the congregation in the music of this traditional service. In addition to directing the Sanctuary Choir, Kathy also directs the Jazzy Juniors (grades 1-6), Youth Handbell Choir, Sounds of Joy (Adult Handbell Choir), as well as planning and executing special music throughout the year for additional special services and programs. She is a native of Staunton and received a Bachelor of Music from James Madison University. Kathy began serving at Memorial in October, 1997.


Dr. Bill Smith

Dr. Smith serves as the Interim Associate Pastor during Rev. Ben Sprouse's military tour as a chaplain.  Before Pastor Mark Jones arrived in 2014 Bill also served as the Interim Pastor. Bill is married to Judy and they have served in churches from California to Saudi Arabia as well as serving as Sr Pastor at two churches in Virginia.  Bill received both his Masters of Divinity and PhD from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, CA. 

 

 


Eric Ross

Eric grew up around the United States and Germany. Living in places like Arizona and North Carolina. He received his Bachelors from Liberty University with a degree in Youth Ministry. He has obtained his Masters of Divinity from Liberty University as well. He is currently helping to coach Volleyball and Soccer at Lee High School. His passion is for students to truly understand who God is and the work He is doing in their lives. For students to see God in all circumstances, and build them up to reach out to those around them. Some of his hobbies include playing guitar, watching movies, hiking, and playing soccer.


MaryAnn Angleberger

Mary Ann grew up in Hagerstown, Md. She graduated from South Hagerstown High
School, Bridgewater College B.A. and Univ. of Virginia M.A. She taught middle school
science & math for 5 years at John Wayland Intermediate School in Bridgewater and later
moved to Fort Defiance High School where she taught Biology for 22 years. During her
summers, she was the secretary for Mountain Lake Biological Station/UVA for over 25
years. After retiring from teaching, she worked in the Virginia office for Brethren
Foundation, Inc. She has been secretary at Memorial since December 2002. She is
married to Wayne Angleberger and has one son, Tom Angleberger. He and his wife,
Cece, have two boys, Charlie and Oscar.


Benjamin J. Sprouse

Ben Sprouse has served as both the Associate Pastor and the Youth Minster of Memorial Baptist Church. He is a native of Staunton, and attended Mary Baldwin College earning a B.A. in Religion and Philosophy. He then went on to earn a Master of Divinity at Beeson Divinity School at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Ben began serving at Memorial Baptist in October, 1999.
